Welcome to the 610th Digital Photography Review newsletter. There are no big reviews this week, but plenty of major content to (hopefully) keep you interested. This week saw the arrival into our office of Canon's flagship EOS-1DX Mark II, and we wasted no time getting it into our studio. We've also been updating all of our camera roundups, adding new cameras and updating our coverage of older models on the basis of long-term use. It's a big job but we don't mind doing it, because we like you. You'll find links to all of that content below. Flagship performance: Canon EOS-1D X Mark II in our studio Announced back in February, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II has at long last made its way through our door. We're just itching to get it out and put its 20.2MP sensor and 14 fps burst rate to work shooting some fast action, but first we put it through our slate of studio image quality tests.Click here to see how the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II compares in our studio 2016 Roundup: Enthusiast Long Zoom Cameras While most of the new crop of 1" sensor enthusiast cameras have been on the shorter end of the focal length spectrum, there are now quite a few long zoom models. Whether you want 4K video or a lens reaching 600mm (or both), you'll find one in our roundup of enthusiast long zoom cameras. Click here to read our roundup of enthusiast long zoom compact cameras 2016 Roundup: Compact Enthusiast Zoom Cameras Over the last couple of years, the enthusiast zoom camera market has exploded. Most cameras in the group have 1"-type sensors and fast lenses, though not a lot of zoom power. Our updated roundup gives an overview of the class and highlights our top picks. Click here to read our roundup of compact enthusiast zoom cameras Making a splash: Nikon D500 real-world sample gallery Nikon's flagship APS-C line got a long-awaited update in the D500. And as far as updates go, it's an impressive one: its 20.9MP sensor, 10 fps continuous shooting, 153-point AF system and 4K video shooting make it something of a DX-format D5. Our initial studio test results have been very encouraging, so we were eager to follow them up with plenty of real-world shooting. We took it out for a spin. Take a look at our gallery of samples from the Canon EOS Rebel T6 Video: Meet the Nikon D500 It's really here. The wait for the D300's successor has been a long one, but the Nikon D500 has officially arrived. Take a look at what's new and notable in Nikon's freshly-revived flagship APS-C line Take a look at our video overview of Nikon's new D500 Thanks for reading! Barney | ||||||||||||||||||||

Welcome to the 609th Digital Photography Review newsletter. With summer almost upon us, we're working hard to finish some major reviews, and you can read our in-depth treatment of the Canon EOS 80D below. This week also saw delivery (finally!) of a Nikon D500 to our Seattle office and just this morning a Sony RX10 III plopped onto the welcome mat, too. Look out for samples and analysis on both cameras very soon - and in the meantime, feast your eyes on the D500's impressive studio results (see link below).Canon catches up: Canon EOS 80D in-depth review The Canon EOS 80D is Canon's latest enthusiast-focused DSLR, and one of the company's most innovative cameras yet. A new 24MP sensor offers greatly improved dynamic range and enables a highly capable Dual Pixel AF system, which transforms performance in live view and video. Is Canon catching up? Read our in-depth review of the EOS 80D to find out.Click here to read our in-depth review of the Canon EOS 80D Nikon D500 impresses in our studio At long last, a Nikon D500 has found its way into our office (thank you LensRentals!). We put the camera straight into our studio to find out what the long-awaited successor to the D300 can do. Click the links below to see how the D500 performs compared to its predecessors and peers. Click here to read more about how the D500 performs in our studio Don't worry, it'll be all-white! As regular site visitors may have noticed, DPReview has a new color scheme. We recently rolled-out a 'light' theme, in response to almost 18 years of feedback (some polite, some rather forthright, and some little short of threatening) that white text on black is too hard to read. We also increased font size and tweaked our default typeface for improved legibility across the board. After digging through (literally) hundreds of feedback emails this week about this new white theme (some complimentary, some rather rich in four-letter words, and some positively manic), I feel the need to remind some of our loyal readers of what we said in our original announcement earlier this month - the original black background isn't going anywhere. You can toggle it on or off at will, and you will continue to be able to do so. So don't worry - everything will be all-white! Unless you prefer it not to be! And to all of you who've thanked us for finally making a light theme available, you are very welcome. I've been waiting for it a long time, too. Click here to read more about our new optional 'light' theme Highlight reel: top video trends from NAB 2016 With over 100,000 attendees, the NAB Show (National Association of Broadcasters) is a great place to see what tools and technologies are on the horizon for filmmakers, videographers, and even still photographers. We take a look at a few trends and products that caught our eye last week at NAB 2016 in Las Vegas. Read more about what we found when we visited NAB 2016 Purple Reign: Photographer Brian Ach shares his experiences of working with Prince Photographer Brian Ach was Prince's European tour photographer during his 2011 'Welcome 2' tour. Brian shared some tour stories with us in his PIX 2015 closing talk, and chatted with us again today about his experience photographing and working with Prince. We've taken a pre-production model for a spin around Puget Sound to see how it measures up. Click here to take a look at our sample images from Panasonic's new DMC-GX85 Thanks for reading!
