The Digital Photography Review Newsletter The most popular weekly photography newsletter, with over 400,000 subscribers Wednesday, July 22, 2015
Welcome to the 570th Digital Photography Review newsletter. If this is the first time you’re receiving our newsletter, don’t worry. It means that you’re among a number of new registrants to DPReview since late 2011 who have been affected by a site glitch that has prevented us from sending it to you. We fixed the glitch and as of today, you’ll start receiving the newsletter on a weekly basis. If you no longer want to hear from us, that’s fine – just follow the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of this email. Alright, now that the admin is done, let's take a look at some recent content highlights! The big beast: hands on with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 We got a chance to get our hands on Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GX8 recently, and have prepared a slideshow running through its features. It's the first Micro Four Thirds camera to gain a 20MP sensor and it wraps a great many other features, including a Dual IS system, into its substantial magnesium alloy body. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV first impressions updated with video samples Our Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV first impressions continues to grow as we've added a variety of video samples to the preview. The RX100 IV is Sony's latest enthusiast compact, and its 20MP 1"-type stacked CMOS sensor is capable of 4K video and slow-motion clips ranging from 120-960 fps, all with virtually no rolling shutter. We put a number of these modes to the test. Take a look at some video samples from the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV Sigma 24-35mm F2 DG HSM A real-world sample gallery posted There's been a great deal of interest in the Sigma 24-35mm F2 Art lens since its launch last month. And who can blame the internet for getting excited over the world's fastest full-frame zoom? With all of the appeal and high-end touches offered by Sigma's 'Art' series, the 24-35mm just begs to be taken out for a spin - and DPReview's Deputy Editor Rishi Sanyal did just that. Click here to look at our Sigma 24-35mm F2 DG HSM A sample gallery Canon PowerShot G3 X real-world samples posted The PowerShot G3 X is Canon's newest premium compact camera, offering a versatile 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens and a 1"-type 20MP sensor. I took the G3 X out on a weekend fishing trip deep in the Olympic mountains. We've got more samples on the way (and Raw conversions as soon as possible) but for now, take a look at my initial real-world gallery. Take a look at our gallery of samples from Canon's PowerShot G3X Capture One Pro 8 software review Capture One Pro is a software package designed to perform as a Raw processing application as well as a host for those who like to shoot tethered. Created by Phase One, which also makes medium format backs, cameras and lenses, the application emerged first in the professional studio environment. Having expanded into the consumer market, it can handle Raw files from over 300 cameras. We tested out some of its newer capabilities. Read our review of Capture One Pro 8 Readers' Showcase: Dale Johnson As a child Dale Johnson took a trip around the perimeter of the US with his family in a Volkswagen van. That experience may have helped turn him into the eager traveler and photographer he is today. Take a look at his images - you might get inspired to plan your next trip. Our full review of the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV is hours away (fingers crossed) and we're finishing off our review of the Fujifilm X-T10 ready for publication next week. We're also hoping to have access to Sony's new RX10 II and a7R II very soon, for studio and real-world testing. Barney
