Welcome to the 571st Digital Photography Review newsletter. As I mentioned last week, we fixed a site glitch recently that meant that a lot of readers who joined DPReview some ago never actually received the newsletter. This is just a reminder that if you're seeing this newsletter for the first time, and you don't want to get it anymore, you can just follow the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of this email and we'll say no more about it. Pocket full of tricks: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV review posted Sony defined a category when it rolled out the enthusiast-focused Cyber-shot DSC-RX100. This shirt pocketable compact's fourth iteration brings a new 20MP 1"-type stacked CMOS sensor to the table, maintaining an F1.8-2.8, 24-70mm equivalent zoom lens from the preceding model. Shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X We've been shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X for a few days now. Canon's latest high-end compact offers a 20MP sensor and 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens, with a touch-sensitive LCD screen and optional EVF. The G3 X occupies something of a niche in the long-zoom category, offering a longer lens than its 1-inch sensor competitors but without some of the extras, like a built-in viewfinder and 4K video. Read about my experience using the Canon PowerShot G3 X Real-world samples: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR Nikon's AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm F2.8-4E ED VR is intended as a high-quality everyday lens with the company's APS-C format DSLRs. Offering an equivalent focal length range of 24-120mm, the 16-80mm features optical VR stabilization and an electronic aperture diaphragm. We spent the weekend shooting with the lens in and around Seattle, attached to a Nikon D7200. Take a look at Luis dos Santos's work Motorola Moto X Style preview and samples The Moto X Style is Motorola's brand new flagship smartphone and replaces the 2014 edition of the Moto X, using a 1/2.3" 21MP BSI CMOS sensor and F2.0 lens. We've had a chance to try the new model before launch, and we took it out to capture a range of sample shots in varying light conditions. Just this morning we took delivery of a final production quality Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II, so you can expect studio and real-world samples from that camera very soon, and our full review of the Fujifilm X-T10 is very close to completion, so keep an eye out for that. Read more Photos of former Vice President Dick Cheney on September 11, 2001 released to public record Published Saturday, July 25, 2015 1:00:00 PM GMT A collection of images featuring then-Vice President Dick Cheney on September 11, 2001 have recently been released to the public in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. Part of the National Archive, the images are available on Flickr and show Cheney traveling on Marine Two and at the President's Emergency Operations Center. Read more Metabones creates Speed Booster ULTRA with improved optics and Canon lens AF for Panasonic users Published Friday, July 24, 2015 7:24:00 PM GMT Caldwell Photographic and Metabones have announced the Speed Booster Ultra for Micro Four Thirds: an updated design that uses more sophisticated glass and has been optimized for use with the relatively thick Micro Four Thirds filter stack. The latest Canon version also gains AF-S autofocus when used with Panasonic cameras: an improvement available via firmware update for existing users. Read more On top of the world: Photographer faces fears to capture rare wedding photos Published Friday, July 24, 2015 12:00:00 PM GMT Photographer Brian Rueb was approached by two friends to shoot their wedding - a familiar proposal for many photographers. However, there was a slightly unusual twist in this case, as the couple planned to tie the knot on top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Read more Panasonic Osaka offers 3D figurine portraits via imaging booth fitted with 120 Lumix GH4s Published Friday, July 24, 2015 12:22:47 AM GMT The Panasonic Center in Osaka has installed a photo booth that uses 120 Lumix DMC-GH4 cameras to create a three-dimensional impression of the occupants, which can then be turned into a plaster figurine. Panasonic claims that what makes its booth stand out is that the 'scan' is created in just 1/1000sec. That means the subjects can be in motion and the image will still be sharp. Read more Flickr brings back Pro account option Published Thursday, July 23, 2015 7:20:27 PM GMT Flickr has re-introduced its Pro level membership after an account structure re-organization removed the option for most site users in 2013. When Flickr upgraded its free members to 1 Terabyte of space with every account, the option for new Pro plans was phased out. Read more The AP and British Movietone publish more than 1 million minutes of historic footage to YouTube Published Thursday, July 23, 2015 6:24:17 PM GMT The Associated Press and British Movietone have announced the addition of more than 1 million minutes of digitized historic footage to YouTube. The AP says that this project represents the largest ever upload of historic news content to YouTube, and will serve as a 'visual encyclopedia' for witnessing some of the biggest moments in recent world history. Read more Canon PowerShot G3 X added to studio test scene comparison Published Thursday, July 23, 2015 2:00:00 PM GMT We've already published an initial real-world gallery from the PowerShot G3 X, Canon's newest enthusiast compact, and now we've put its capabilities to the test against our studio scene. The G3 X is weather-sealed and uses a 1"-type 20MP sensor with a 24-600mm equiv. lens, making it an appealing choice for outdoorsy types.
