Welcome to the 582nd Digital Photography Review newsletter. And first, a big thank you to everyone that joined us at PIX last week, both in-person at the Seattle Center and online. We had a great time speaking to DPReview readers, many of whom we've been communicating with on the forums and in comment threads for years. Click here to catch up on archived PIX content RX aeternus? Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II review The Sony RX10 II is the follow-up to a camera we already thought quite highly of. While the 24-200mm F2.8 equivalent lens and external body design remain unchanged, the RX10 II sports a new stacked sensor and can record 4k video internally, with full sensor readout. It also features improved AF performance and a higher-res EVF, but is it worth the sticker price? Yesterday saw three new cameras, PowerShot G5 X, G9 X, and EOS M10. We boiled down their key features to bring you a quick breakdown of their specifications and capabilities. Our review of Sony's flagship mirrorless camera, the A7R II should be ready in the next few days, and hopefully, this will be followed by full reviews of the Canon EOS 5DS / R and Nikon D810 (probably in that order). News updates Lomography launches Lomo’instant Wide camera Published Tuesday, October 13, 2015 7:27:50 PM GMT Lomography has introduced the Lomo’instant Wide camera. Using Fujifilm Instax Wide film, the camera offers a 35mm equivalent lens and Auto, Bulb, and 1/30sec Fixed Shutter Speed modes. Features cater to those who want to take a little more control over their instant prints, including a multi-exposure button and a lens cap that functions as a shutter remote control. Read more Canon debuts EOS M10 and collapsible EF-M 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS Published Tuesday, October 13, 2015 4:00:00 AM GMT The Canon EOS M10 makes its debut with a new collapsible 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS kit lens, taking up residence below the more advanced EOS M3 in that company's mirrorless lineup. A replacement for the M2, the M10 offers an 18MP CMOS sensor, 3" 1.04M dot tilting touch screen LCD, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC and 1080/30p video recording. Read more ZEISS goes wide with Loxia 21mm F2.8 for Sony E-mount Published Monday, October 12, 2015 6:42:41 PM GMT ZEISS has introduced the 21mm F2.8 to its Loxia lineup for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, joining the 35mm F2 and 50mm F2. Like its siblings, the 2.8/21 allows the user to de-click the aperture ring for video recording. Read more Adobe issues Lightroom 6.2 apology and update Published Monday, October 12, 2015 5:04:00 PM GMT Adobe has issued an apology over the 'significant crashing bug' introduced in Lightroom 6.2. The latest version of the software was released last Monday, and brought with it a redesigned import experience. That new experience, unfortunately, also introduced instability into Lightroom and removed some import functions; users reported issues with the software crashing and running poorly. Read more Dreaming for a living: The conceptual composite photography of Colin Anderson Published Sunday, October 11, 2015 12:00:00 PM GMT Australia-based conceptual artist Colin Anderson is re-defining what it means to be a modern photographer. An early adopter of Photoshop, Anderson creates complex allegorical images from a number of visual elements, including stills captured with a medium format camera and 3D elements created from scratch. Their energetic live shows pack venues throughout the year in their hometown, but recently, they performed their single 'Moment' for a different crowd: a small crew of filmmakers armed with Samsung NX1 and NX500 cameras, led by directors Brad Strain and Matt Kumasaka. Read more Light L16 packs 16 cameras into a single portable body Published Thursday, October 8, 2015 7:13:27 PM GMT US-based startup Light has officially introduced its L16, a portable device packed with 16 individual cameras, ten of which capture an image at the same time at different fixed focal lengths. The resulting photograph is a composite of all the individual images combined, with a final resolution of up to 52 megapixels. An earlier prototype of this camera was shown off this past April. Read more Recipe for 6S: iPhone 6S Real-world Sample Gallery Published Thursday, October 8, 2015 6:22:52 PM GMT The iPhone 6S doesn't look too different from the iPhone 6 that it replaces, but its camera module has been significantly improved. Now offering 12MP and snappier performance, the camera on the iPhone 6S is impressively capable. We've been out and about with the new phone, taking plenty of pictures in a range of different situations. Click through to see our gallery of real-world samples Sony spins off image sensor division to form its own company Published Wednesday, October 7, 2015 6:02:31 PM GMT Sony Corporation is to split the part of its business that makes imaging sensors away from the Devices segment that it currently comes under, to form its own company called Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation. Sony has said that the degree of autonomy that the new company will enjoy will allow it to react more quickly to changing market forces and will encourage the business to grow more quickly. Read more Manfrotto launches Pixi Evo mini tripods for DSLRs Published Wednesday, October 7, 2015 6:02:08 PM GMT Manfrotto has launched the Pixi Evo, a miniature lightweight tripod with two-section legs and five adjustable steps. The Pixi Evo represents a design update over the original Pixi mini tripod, and is designed, in part, to support entry-level DSLRs with large lenses.
